An FIR has been registered against a 23-year-old man for running over a dog that had urinated on his new car tyres in Vasai.

An FIR has been registered against a 23-year-old man for running over a dog that had urinated on his new car tyres in Vasai. An animal activist from the Vasai area took the dog to his house for medical treatment, after it suffered a major spinal injury.

On Sunday, Nanda Mahadik, a resident of the Manikpur area, noticed that a 23-year-old man from Mumbai, Saurabh Dharamdhere, had shared pictures and videos on his Facebook account about having run over the dog, in what was yet another hate crime against strays that had taken place in the city. CCTV camera footage shows the car running over the dog, after which the animal can be seen screaming out in pain.

Meet Ashar, an animal welfare official from Mumbai, who helped Mr Mahadik file an FIR against the cruel act, said, “ After Saurabh ran over the dog with his car, Nanda asked him why he committed such a cruel act. Saurabh then confessed that he had spotted the stray directly in his path and had run over the animal on purpose as he wanted to punish it for peeing on his new car. Some other residents of the society took the injured dog immediately to a nearby private veterinarian. We activists have also started an online petition to create awareness about hate crimes against animals. Anyone can sign the petition and read up on laws that every animal lover in India must know about.”
