Jai Bhagwan Taxi and Autorickshaw Sanghatana (JBTRS) leader Balasaheb Sanap, who had threatened to go on strike from August 5, has said that he would shift the deadline to August 10, as a gesture of co-operation from its end.

The decision was made suddenly by Mr Sanap, who shot to fame after a protest that turned violent on June 21 and saw damage being done to two Ola cabs and one media van. Mr Sanap, who had called for a strike on July 26, withdrew it a day before after meeting with chief minister Devandra Fadnavis.

The JBTRS has found a lot of support among taxi and auto drivers after the other major unions, Mumbai Taximen’s Union (MTU) and Mumbai Autorickshaw and Taxi Union (MATU), headed by A.L. Quadros and Shanshank Rao, failed to put any kind of pressure on the state government to bring private taxi operators like Ola and Uber under a legal structure.

Mr Sanap has said that he has pushed the deadline to August 10.
