Two young men from Thane, who were in love with a 22-year-old girl, allegedly ended up taking their own lives.

Two young men from Thane, who were in love with a 22-year-old girl, allegedly ended up taking their own lives.

Harish Jadhav (22) hanged himself to death two weeks ago to prove his love for the girl while mentioning the second boy, Bhushan Gawali (23), in his suicide note. Gawali, wracked by guilt and possibly fearing a police probe since he was named in the note, slit his wrist two days ago and died on Wednesday at a local private hospital.

According to the police, both the men had allegedly unrequited love for the girl. The trio — Jadhav, Gawali and the girl whose name is being withheld on the request of the police — had attended the same school and college and had been friends for the last several years.

The Kasarvadavali police, on receiving information about the two deaths, has registered them as accidental deaths.

Speaking about the suicides, police officer Mohan Dubal said, “Jadhav and Gawali’s love for the girl was one-sided. We interrogated the girl but she denied having feelings for Jadhav. There were two or three incidents that had made Jadhav sad. He called the girl to meet him but she declined, and later he found her with Gawali.”

The police explained that after that Jadhav’s feelings were hurt, and — as he was also depressed over his not getting a proper job — he decided to commit suicide.

“He wrote a suicide note in which he mentioned Gawali’s name and because of his love for the same girl made him to committee suicide,” said Dubal.

The police had registered accidental death case after his death.

After few days Gawali started feeling bad because Jadhav was his friend and relative too.

He felt guilty, thinking that he was the reason behind Jadhav’s death. So on Monday, he decided to end his life. No one was present at his home when he took the extreme step .

“We have registered two accidental death cases," said D. D. Tele, senior police inspector, Kasarvadavali police station.
