Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha president Swami Chakrapani will lead a delegation of saints to Kairana to probe the alleged Hindu exodus on Sunday.

Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha president Swami Chakrapani will lead a delegation of saints to Kairana to probe the alleged Hindu exodus on Sunday. He has been asked by the Akhilesh Yadav government to prepare a report on the matter. The development comes after PWD minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, Shivpal Yadav, appealed people to come forward and look into the allegations.

“I, along with five saints, have been nominated by the Uttar Pradesh government to probe the Kairana issue and prepare a report on it. We will visit controversial places and report to the government from the ground,” the Swami who was in town on Saturday to do an assessment of fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim’s properties told media persons.

Terming the UP chief minister’s decision to invite seers to Kairana as “honest”, the Swami said, “Akhileshji deserves applause. Despite knowing that we (seers) are followers of Hinduism, his government has placed trust in us and it’s now our job to present a true and unbiased picture of Kairana.”

On a question whether the issue had been raised with an eye on the coming Assembly polls, Chakrapani refused comment. “I cannot clearly say anything on the issue at present. I will have to visit the place and find out the reasons,” he said. The Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha in December last year had allegedly set on fire a car belonging to the gangster in Ghaziabad that was auctioned in Mumbai.

BJP MLA Sangeet Som, an accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots, claimed there was a Hindu exodus from Kairana and the party on Friday demanded a CBI probe into the issue. Mr Som has issued an “ultimatum” to the state government to bring back Hindus, who had migrated from the small town, within 20 days. The party has submitted a memorandum and probe report of its own to the UP governor, Ram Naik. However, the Shamli administration has refused claims of a religion-based exodus and said that migration is for better job opportunities.
