A day-old baby boy was found abandoned near the Dahisar river close to Borivali's Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) on Monday. The Kasturba Marg police in Borivali (east) has registered a case against the infant's unidentified parents.

The baby boy was first seen near the boundary wall of the river, following which the police was informed. The neonate was then immediately rushed to the Shabadi hospital in Kandivali (west), where doctors have declared him healthy and fit. Police sources said the baby was under the care of doctors.

Police officers said that around 7.45 am on Monday, a few locals who were present at the river for the ongoing Chhat puja noticed the baby, swaddled in a blanket, lying on the ground. They informed the Dahisar police which was present at the spot for Chhat puja bandobast.

The police is enquiring about newborn babies in the area and said the baby would be taken to a children's home.
