Eight months after a police team from Haryana killed gangster Sandeep Gadoli in an alleged encounter in Mumbai, a magistrate court in the city on Friday allowed an application filed by Gadoli’s family seeking a judicial inquiry into the incident.

“Further inquiry u/s 176 (1-A) of CrPC has to be conducted by this court,” read the operative order. “The detailed order is expected later,” said advocate Tanveer Nizam, appearing on behalf of Gadoli’s family.

“Now, with the section 176 (1-A) inquiry, most lacunae left out by the SIT will be exposed. Most importantly, the angle of a criminal conspiracy will be finally investigated to bring other guilty people to book,” said advocate Nizam.

Sudesh Kapadia, Gadoli’s sister, who was present in the court, said: “We had filed this application on May 27 this year and the court has now accepted it. We hope the truth would come out and the culprits be given harsh punishment.”

A Haryana police team had killed Gadoli in an encounter at Hotel Airport Metro.

After the encounter, Gadoli’s family had moved the HC alleging that it was a fake encounter, following which a special investigating team was formed to start a probe.
