Police arrests cameraman for raping Bhojpuri actress

The Oshiwara police in Andheri has arrested a 31-year-old cameraman associated with the Bhojpuri film industry in connection with the gang-rape of a Bhojpuri actress. The 28-year-old complainant is a Mira Road resident, and she lives with her husband and two children.

Police officers are now on the lookout for a singer in the case who is still at large. An officer attached with the Oshiwara police station said the incident took place on Wednesday.

The arrested accused, identified as Abhay Ramsanjivan Tiwari (31), along with Alam, called the actor to their Oshiwara office on the pretext of casting her in a Hindi music album. Later, they spiked her drink and when she fell unconscious, they raped her. An FIR was lodged in the case on Friday and on Saturday, the police arrested Tiwari, while still looking for Alam.

According to police officers, the complainant has worked in several Bhopuri albums and a year ago, she had worked in a music album with Alam. So, both knew each other. Alam has an office in the Adarsh Nagar area of Oshiwara, and Tiwari works as a cameraperson in Alam’s office.

On August 17, when the actor was at home, Abhay called her around 6 pm and invited her to Alam’s studio on the pretext of planning two Hindi music videos. Tiwari then picked up the actress on a bike from Goregaon station and the duo reached Alam’s office around 8 pm. Here, Alam and Tiwari offered her a drink, which had been spiked. After consuming it, she immediately fell unconscious and both then raped her, said a police official.

Later, when the actress regained consciousness late at night, both the men warned her of dire consequences if she complained. Following this, the woman returned to her house, and narrated the whole incident to her husband. The couple lodged a police complaint on Friday. Acting upon the complaint, the police arrested Tiwari from his house in Ekta Bhoomi Society of Azad Maidan area in Goregaon. The actress was sent for a medical check-up in Cooper Hospital and the reports are still awaited.
