The Yuva Sena has questioned Mumbai University’s sudden decision to return to MKCL for the pre-admission online registration process after the agency had been replaced on instructions from the government. While Yuva Sena claimed that re-registering nearly 2 lakh students would burden colleges expected to upload all the data, the university maintained that it would not be difficult despite the colleges’ claims to the contrary.

Pradeep Sawant, former senate member of UM and member of Yuva Sena, said, “The university changed the agency on instructions from the government. So how can they go back to MKCL without any instructions from government. The university has also said that students will have to be re-registered as the format followed by the new agency cannot be processed by MKCL and colleges will be asked to do so. With internal exams almost about to begin, the university is burdening colleges with additional work due to its mistakes.”

Dr M.A. Khan, registrar, MU, refuted Yuva Sena’s allegations of not getting necessary permissions from the government to revert to MKCL.

“MKCL has been carrying out various processes of the university and is not doing anything new. The government has said that any fresh work should be allotted after following a tendering process but as MKCL will continue to do the work that it has been doing, there was no need to have a new tendering process,” said Dr Khan.

Asked about colleges being burdened with additional work, he preferred not to comment.
