Less than 24 hours after raping the minor daughter of his co-worker at a construction site in Mira Road, a 24-year-old accused was arrested by the Navghar police from his native place in Sendurjane village of Buldhana district in Vidharba on Thursday.

According to the police, the accused, who has been identified as Ganesh Odhule (24), knew the family members of the 13-year-old girl and used to visit their makeshift tenement frequently. Odhule sexually assaulted the girl on multiple occasions and had threatened her with dire consequences if she resisted and revealed his crime to anybody. On Wednesday, he repeated the act, but fled after learning that the girl had spoken to her parents about her ordeal, the police said.

“Following a complaint registered by the girl’s father, our team, led by head constable R.D Patil, swung into action and, after procuring Odhule’s address from the building contractor, nabbed him from his native place on Thursday afternoon,” said senior police inspector Srikant Padhule.
