A convict who had jumped parole from Kolhapur jail was arrested on Thursday from Vikhroli. The Anti-Terrorism Squad arrested him and handed over to the Daighar police.

A convict who had jumped parole from Kolhapur jail was arrested on Thursday from Vikhroli. The Anti-Terrorism Squad arrested him and handed over to the Daighar police.

Aziz Abdul Salim Khan was sentenced to life imprisonment after a case of dacoity with murder was registered in the 2010 in the Azad Maidan police station, ATS officials said.

An ATS officer said, “In December 2015, he was released on parole for 30 days. He went to his home in Daighar. But he did not return to Kolhapur jail after completion of his parole and was absconding. Following this the jail authorities registered a case against him in the Daighar police station.”

On Thursday, ATS officials received a tip-off that Khan had been seen in Vikhroli area. Officials then laid a trap the Vikhroli unit of the ATS arrested Khan.

As the case against him was registered at Daighar police station, he was handed over to officials of the said station.

Around 59 convicts have jumped parole this year across all jails in Maharashtra. Recently, Sajjad Mughal, the security guard convicted for the murder of city-based lawyer Pallavi Puryakastha jumped parole and did not return to Nashik Central Jail. Following this the jailer of Nashik Central Jail was suspended for granting the convict parole.
