As many as 30 women created a ruckus at the Charkop police station, following which a 51-year-old owner of an imitation jewellery factory was arrested. Sources said the women came to the police station to protest and file a complaint against the man for allegedly molesting every woman who worked in his factory.

Police officials said around 25 to 30 women came to the police station at around 1 pm and started shouting slogans, demanding that a police complaint be filed against one Mukesh Laxmandas Bellani.

Mr Bellani owns an imitation jewellery factory in Bandarpakhani road in the area and stays in Mahavir Nagar, which is nearby. On Wednesday, he allegedly tried to molest a 11-year-old girl who had come to his factory with one of her relatives.

The victim immediately informed her relative about Bellani’s attempt to molest her. This angered the relative who informed others about it. Frustrated over the incident, women, along with locals, reached the police station to lodge a complaint against Bellani.

The locals too, in their statement to the police, said Bellani was notorious in the area for harassing women and trying to molest them.

Locals said he had touched the women working in his factory inappropriately several times and had threatened them against telling anyone about it. The police said they are now checking all complaints against Bellani and will then decide which sections of IPC should apply to him.
