About five housing societies in the uptown area of Lokhandwala in Kandivali have been facing a severe shortage of water received from the civic body for the past two weeks.

About five housing societies in the uptown area of Lokhandwala in Kandivali have been facing a severe shortage of water received from the civic body for the past two weeks. Despite a written complaint and several follow-ups from residents of these societies to the R/S ward office, the area continues to receive erratic water supply.

Meanwhile, residents have only received assurances from civic officials that their problem would be fixed soon.

Residents have complained that water supply had been bleak for the past month, but it got worse within the past week.

Sanjay Singh, resident of Essbel Cooperative Housing Society, said, “Earlier we faced water cuts for an hour, which slowly increased to two hours and then eight hours. Now we barely get water for an hour a day.”

The other housing societies in the area that are facing similar problems are the Green Gagan Society and the Balaji Housing Society.

Before complaining to the BMC, the housing societies got all internal pipelines within their buildings checked for blockages.

Mr Singh said, “We ensured our pipelines were not faulty. The main water tank of our building is not filling up due to low pressure from the BMC’s water supply.”

Padmaja Kulkarni, secretary of Green Gagan Society, said, “We suspect that the adjoining housing societies have installed pumps for drawing excess water. When we pointed this out to the civic officials who have visited our area for inspection, they did not take note of our concerns.”

Speaking to The Asian Age, a civic ward official privy to the issue said, “We have inspected the area for problems. The problem will be fixed within a day or two.
