Vijay Rajbhar, an accused in the murder case of Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Haresh Bhambani, has applied for bail. The bail application will be tabled in the Dindoshi sessions court on Monday.

Vijay was arrested along with Pradeep Rajbhar and one minor, from the Laljipada area of Kandivali, by the Kandivali police immediately after the bodies of Hema and Bhambani were found.

Vijay’s lawyer, in the bail application, has stated that he was not aware about the murder and Vidhyadhar had called him to his warehouse, saying he needed to dump some waste in drainage. Vijay often used to do such work for Vidhyadhar and so agreed to dump the two boxes on December 11, last year.

Vijay’s father Ramadhar Rajbhar told The Asian Age, “My son only used to ferry his (Vidhyadhar’s) goods. He was not employed by Vidhyadhar and they only had a professional relationship. Vijay cannot harm any one.”

Vijay along with the other accused is in judicial custody now. Officials suspect Vijay played a major role in the murder conspiracy as he was present at the meeting which had taken place in Chembur, where the conspiracy was allegedly hatched. Vijay had also visited Jaipur with the main accused Vidhyadhar a few days prior to the murder. Vijay’s tempo was used to dump the bodies of Hema and Haresh.

When this newspaper approached the Rajbhar family, Saroj, Vijay’s wife, said the family had not got back their tempo and it was their only source of income. Vijay was the only earning member of the family. The couple has three children. Saroj makes imitation jewellery on contract and earns about Rs 30 per day.
