The urban development department has de-reserved a plot of land meant for recreational purposes in Charkop for the Metro car depot and commercial use.

The urban development department has de-reserved a plot of land meant for recreational purposes in Charkop for the Metro car depot and commercial use. The de-reservation of the 16.4-hectare plot will be effective from the date of issue of the notification.

According to the notice issued by the department, the said plot had been earlier reserved for a recreation ground, government staff quarters, government offices, court and court housing, educational complex, integrated healthcare and a health training centre, a parking lot and Development Plan roads. The notice further said that the decision to de-reserve 16.4 hectares for the Metro car depot had been taken after getting the opinions, views, objections and suggestions of the general public in June 2015.

The process was overseen by the deputy director, town planning, who submitted the report in December 2015, after which the decision to de-reserve a major chunk of the plot was taken by the department.

While the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has been appointed as the competent authority and the MCGM has been told to make the changes in the Development Plan accordingly, the notice has said that the modifications would be kept open for inspection by the general public on working days. The modified plan will be available for inspection at the MMRDA office at BKC, the office of the deputy director, town planning, at Azad Maidan and the head office of the BMC with the chief engineer (Development Plan).

The same is also available on the official state government website.
