The Directorate of Art has reassessed all papers of students who appeared for the MH-AAC-CET 2016 after it received numerous complaints regarding the quality of assessment and hundreds applied for revaluation. As a result of this, nearly 90 per cent of the CET results have changed and a new merit list will be released soon. The move has, however, not gone down well with some students who had been allotted a seat in the previous merit list.

Speaking about the decision to get papers of all subjects of fine arts for which the CET had been conducted, Dr Rajiv Mishra, convenor for the CET, said, “We had received around 132 revaluation applications. Based on the feedback on the quality of assessment we decided to get all the papers reassessed so that there would be no room for any complaints thereafter. As a result of this, the merit list that was released earlier will undergo a change.”

The Asian Age reported, on June 23, about students complaining of getting single-digit marks in the drawing paper, which is one of the four papers for which the CET was conducted.

Dr Mishra said that the result of the reassessment has shown that the previous assessment was done haphazardly and the DOA will take action against the examiners. “The decision to reassess all papers was taken in the best interest of the student community and though it may have harmed the prospects of some, it was done keeping in mind the principles of natural justice,” said Dr Mishra.

Around 2,250 students had appeared for the CET for the 750 seats available in the fine arts section. The CET was held for four papers that included drawing, object, design and memory subjects.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena had backed the students after they had been initially turned away by the DOA.
