The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Monday appointed a detailed design consultant for the construction of the 16.5-km-long Andheri (east)-Dahisar (east) Metro-7 corridor.

The civil work on the Rs 6,208-crore Metro-7 project is expected to start after the monsoon, for which the contractors have already started testing the soil on the Western Express Highway (WEH), which is the alignment of the project.

The executive committee of the MMRDA accorded administrative approval to the appointment of M/s Ayesa Ingenieria Arquitectura SAV as the detailed design consultant for the project. The firm is expected to develop architectural, electrical and mechanical plans and designs for all the 14 stations on the 16.5-km-long Metro-7 corridor. Further, the firm will carry out the design for the depot structure and proof-check the designs submitted by the contractors, the MMRDA said in a statement on Monday.

Commenting on the development, UPS Madan, metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA, said, “Metro corridors will be the saviour as far as the future of this city is concerned. Hence, the necessary urgency is being afforded to the Metro rail projects. We are sure of starting the construction of the Metro-7 corridor after the monsoon.”
