The railway police has expressed its inability to install under vehicle scanners (UVS) outside the Dadar station where vehicles park, citing lack of space for the same.

The machines help detect bombs placed on the undercarriage of the vehicles.

The Railway Police Force (RPF) has said that both the east and west exits of Dadar were milling with people and establishments making it impossible to install these machines.

Dadar was selected as one of the five stations requiring these scanners owing to its high footfalls. The other stations selected are Thane, Kalyan, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and CST, which the railways had identified under the Integrated Security System.

An official on the condition of anonymity said, “Stations such as CST, LTT have better infrastructure but we hope we are able to work out a solution for Thane and Kalyan.”

Currently, two scanners have been placed at CST.

These under vehicle scanners cost between Rs 4 and Rs 5 lakh.

CR’s senior divisional security commissioner Sachin Bhalode said, “We surveyed the area and unfortunately, Dadar does not have any space for it. We are trying to find some space at Kalyan and Thane and hopefully, the scanners will be placed there.”
