Cops arrest 6 for abducting ‘fraudster’

The Kasturba Marg police station of Borivali arrested six people, including a woman, in connection with a abduction case. Police information reveals that the abductors were once allegedly cheated by their victim and had acted against him out of revenge and with the hope of extracting money from him. The accused were produced in court on Thursday and sent to judicial custody.

According to police sources, 33-year-old Shahid Bagban, who was abducted last Monday, has a case of fraud registered against him at the Bangur Nagar police station by a few locals. However, he was later released on bail. The complainants of the cheating case are Shama Abdul Rehman Baksh (51) and a distant relative who lost their money. Bagban’s release had angered the duo and they wanted their money back.

On Monday, Bagban was visiting the wholesale fruit market in Rajendra Nagar of Borivali, where Baksh spotted him, and asked him about the money. She then allegedly abducted Bagban with the help of her relative. Later, the duo informed four other people of their abduction, and all six accused brought Bagban to Goregaon and locked him in a room. Bagban was allegedly threatened and assaulted in their custody.

Later, the abductors borrowed an Omni and dropped Bagban off at his residence much later that day. Meanwhile, one of Bagban’s relatives lodged a missing complaint with the police.

During the investigation, the police tracked Baksh’s mobile number and location and arrested her under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for kidnapping and assault.

During the interrogation, Baksh directed police officers to other accused who were arrested by Thursday. The Kasturba Marg police has also seized the automobile that was used to drop Bagban.
