Comedian’s jibe at CBI officer’s wife lands him in court

Calling the wife of a CBI officer ‘Draupadi’ in a comedy event, has compelled comedian Deep Chhabria to appear in court.

The Girgaon sessions court is set to pass the final order in the case on November 9. In this particular case, the comedian has been charged for allegedly outraging the modesty of the wife of a CBI officer by calling her “Draupadi” at a comedy show. Chhabria had allegedly asked the victim, accompanied by her husband at a stand up comedy show, “Whether she was Draupadi ” when she hesitated to answer his question about who was her husband.

According to the FIR lodged, a copy of which is with The Asian Age, the couple were invited to a stand up comedy show to be hosted by Chhabria at the Malabar Hill club, of which they are members. The event was held on October 16, 2015.

The complainant alleges that on the said day, Chhabria started performing and mid way, asked her who is her husband.

After the woman, taken aback by the sudden question, replied after a few seconds, Chabbria allegedly said, “Why did you hesitate to answer about your husband Are you Draupadi ” She said she felt immensely embarrassed and angry at Chhabria’s comment.
