The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has alleged that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has suffered a loss of Rs 400 crore in the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme at Worli.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has alleged that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has suffered a loss of Rs 400 crore in the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme at Worli. The party has demanded that the civic body should take stern action against the developer for cheating.

Nine buildings of transit camps were built by a developer in Gomata Nagar at Ganpat Kadam Nagar in Worli. For the last 10 years, 250 families have been residing in them. According to BMC rules, the structural stability of these buildings has to be accessed after 30 years.

However, in just 10 years, they have been declared dilapidated and residents are being forced to vacate them, said party sources.

Instead of making a reinforced concrete (RCC) structure, the developer used steel load bearing in the construction. In lieu of this, the developer was given a transfer development right (TDR) of 2 lakh square feet, but he has already sold off the TDR.

The civic body has suffered a loss of Rs 400 crore in this case, alleged MNS group leader Sandeep Deshpande.

At no fault of theirs, the residents have been forced to evacuate the buildings. The municipal commissioner should investigate this and action should be taken against the developer for cheating the civic body, Mr Deshpande demanded.
