Four alleged conmen in the Cidco area fleeced hundreds of teachers of lakhs of rupees by promising jobs in a non-existent, government-aided “Rajshri Shahu Raje Shikshan Sanstha” in Kolhapur. The Ambad police has registered cases, and arrested one person. However, inquiry is underway and police has not divulged the names of alleged conmen.

Two days ago, the four placed advertisements in local newspapers for a large number of seats in the open category. Advertisements were published in newspapers across Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon and Nandurbar. Hundreds of teachers from all over north Maharashtra replied to the advertisements. The conmen had rented a shop since the past few months in Pratap Chowk area of Old Cidco. They started selling forms from there. Initially, they sold each form for `100 but seeing the rush of prospective teachers, the prices were hiked to Rs 200 and even Rs 500. After the forms were filled up, the conmen began interviews. However, some experienced teachers grew suspicious about the mode of interview and type of questions asked. Some of them even questioned the interviewers.

The conmen warned teachers that they would be disqualified from interviews if they asked unnecessary questions. Some teachers then called up local leaders, who also questioned the four men. When the police arrived, the angry teachers argued with them. Police then asked the teachers to file complaints. The police then asked the teachers to make a memorandum and told them to sign the same. The complaint was registered and the four alleged conmen were taken to Ambad police station.
