In a tragic incident, a five-year-old boy was found suffocated to death in a Tavera, in which he had locked himself while playing hide and seek in the Vikhroli Parksite area.

According to police officials, the deceased, Kurban Rahim Khan, was resident of Parksite. On Saturday, he left home at 3.30 pm and he had been playing with his friends near the house. When he didn’t return home after 6 pm, his mother, a housewife, started searching for Kurban along with his uncle.

They later found the boy lying unconscious on the back seat of the Tavera that was parked at a ground behind the Pankhesha Dargah.

“He was immediately taken to Rajawadi Hospital where he was declared dead after arrival. Crime branch unit 7 keeps 15 stolen cars on the ground and Kurban got locked in one and died due to suffocation, ” said V.M. Rathod, DCP, unit 9.

The deceased’s uncle Rashid Khan said, “Kurban’s father works in a company near Fort. I got call from his mother around 6.45 pm informing me about his absence. I went home immediately and started search for him. Generally, Kurban used to come home twice or thrice in two hours to drink water or to eat something during his playing sessions. Kurban’s mother got worried when he didn’t return home till 6 pm. We visited every possible place, and then we went to the place where stolen cars were parked. With the help of a torch, we found him in a white Tavera.”

Mr Khan added that when they found the boy, there were scars on his body. A post-mortem revealed that heat and suffocation had caused his death.
