The Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) registered a case of corruption against a woman police constable from Thane jail for taking Rs 2,000 from a complainant to grant his bail application.

The Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) registered a case of corruption against a woman police constable from Thane jail for taking Rs 2,000 from a complainant to grant his bail application. The officer is the same one who had filed a molestation complaint against Thane Jail Superintendent Hiralal Jadhav a month ago.

The complainant’s friend has been in judicial custody after the Thane police arrested him in a robbery case a month ago. A police officer from ACB said, “The complainant, on October 15, went to meet jail authorities along with his friend’s lawyer to get a signature on their bail application. After he met the woman constable and narrated the matter, she asked for Rs 2,000 to get her senior’s signature on the application. The complainant recorded a video of her taking the money. The complainant then handed over the video to the anti-corruption office the next day.”

Speaking about the case, PI Deepali Patil from the ACB, said, “The complainant told us that he had seen the woman constable taking Rs 1,000 from every person who had come to get a signature of the accused on the bail application. He then decided to record this. We have checked the authenticity of the video and registered a case against the police constable and will arrest her soon.”
