62 people owe government Rs 5.64 crore for security

Sixty two people including businessmen Ness and Nusli Wadia, Shiv Sena leader Haji Arafat Sheikh, NCP leader Prasad Lad, actor Sonu Sood, producer Boney Kapoor and Congress leader Kripashankar Singh have not paid dues of Rs 5.64 crore to the home department for their security. The information was revealed by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday in a written reply in the Assembly.

“Till December 2015, all together 62 people have not paid Rs 5.64 crore for personal security,” the CM, who also holds the home portfolio, said in the reply to the Assembly. “The Mumbai and suburban collectors have been instructed to recover the money which they are doing,” Mr Fadnavis added in the answer.

The issue about pending dues was raised by legislators Sanjay Potnis, Sunil Shinde, Raj Purohit, Jayprakash Mundada, Varsha Gaikwad and Ameen Patel. It was asked by the legislators if Bollywood actors, film produces, political leaders, developers and others owe Rs 5 crore to the government till January 11, 2016. They also asked why the money had not been recovered from the people and that their names be revealed. it was also asked if the government had taken any action to recover the dues.

The home department provides security to certain people based on threat perceptions. It charges people based on the number of security personnel deployed for them.

Some of the names of the list are Boman Irani, Jeh Wadia, Ness Wadia, Nusli Wadia, M.V. Balgiri, B.R. Shetty, Nikhil Advani, Boney Kapoor, Kripashankar Singh, Haji Arafat Sheikh, Mohammed Farid Sheikh, Nandkumar Naik, Pramod Appa Patil, Prasad Lad, Arvind Shah, Usuf Contractor, Sunil Mantri, Nasir Sheikh, Tarbez Sheikh, Humayu Shafi Ahmed Sheikh, Rajesh Jain, Rajeev Pathak, Tarjitshingh Sahani, Jagdipsingh Sahani, Ajay Gonsalia, Sharad S. Pawar (former corporator), Madhu Sanghavi, Rajendra Wani, Irfan Khatri, Vijay Kamble, Mohammed Anwar Sheikh, Ali Morani, Mohammed Morpani, Karim Morani, B R Shetty, Anil Shah, Jitendra Ramesh Jain, Riyaz Siraj Bhati, Manula Kachawala, Mohammed Ansari, Viren Raichand Shah, Shah Navan Darvesh (deceased). The list has been mentioned in the CM’S reply.
