1 arrested in robbery of Godrej employee

Vikhroli crime branch officials arrested a man on Friday in the case where three armed men had abducted a senior engineer employed by Godrej in a cab and abandoned him at an isolated place after snatching a gold chain and Rs 6,500 from his wallet.

According to the police, 50-year-old Dhansukh Patel was out on his morning walk at the service road near his home in Vikhroli on May 4.

He was being tailed by strangers in a Santro cab. After five minutes, they abducted him after stuffing a handkerchief in his mouth. The accused drove around Bhandup, Mulund and Airoli for almost an hour. Later they stopped the car near some isolated area and they robbed the chain and money at gunpoint. Mr Patel was dropped off near Nahur bridge.

“Patel read the cab number but forget a few digits. After the accused left him near the bridge he approached to Navghar police station but officers asked him to approach the Vikhroli police, which registered the FIR against the cab driver and two others,” said Police SPI Shridhar Hanchate.

The crime branch, working with the numbers Mr Patel had memorised, identified 35 vehicles in which they shortlisted cab drivers. Finally, the crime branch identified the cab and knocked the doors of Govandi resident Rajkumar Jawaharlal Jaiswar (48) , who was driving the car on the day of incident.

The accused has been arrested under Section 365, 394 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. The police is on the lookout for the other two.
