More than khadi

On Mahatma Gandhi’s 68th death anniversary, it is advised that people re-engage with his ideology of non-violence and satyagraha. To those who believe that his ideas are best relegated to school text books, the recent movements against corruption and the December 16 rape case have shown civil disobedience to be a potent agent of change. The Aam Aadmi Party was born of these very movements. Today Gandhi’s ideology is being reduced to the symbolism of khadi and swachhta. But his principles and philosophy entail more substantial lessons in communal harmony, peace and politics.
