The Congress on Monday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “doctoring” information on his date of birth and his educational qualifications and threatened to reveal the “facts” behind his degrees on Tuesday.

Party leader Jairam Ramesh told reporters that Mr Modi has been “doctoring information” on his date of birth and educational qualifications. He claimed Congress spokesman Shaktisinh Gohil is coming from Gujarat with all the documents and would be addressing a press conference on Tuesday on the issue of educational qualifications of the Prime Minister.

On Sunday, vice-chancellor M.N. Patel said that Mr Modi completed his post-graduation in political science from Gujarat University in 1983 and had scored 62.3 per cent as an external student of the varsity.

Mr Patel revealed the information days after Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal accused the Central Information Commission (CIC) of covering up the Prime Minister’s educational qualifications.

Earlier, the Congress had alleged “discrepancies” in Mr Modi’s date of birth.

“In students’ register of M.N. College Visnagar (where Mr Modi took admission in pre-science, equivalent to Class 12) Narendra Modi’s date of birth is mentioned as August 29, 1949. In his election affidavit, he did not reveal his date of birth, but mentioned his age. His official birth date, as available in the public domain, is September 17, 1950,” Mr Gohil had said in Ahmedabad.

Mr Gohil also questioned the timing of Gujarat University sharing details of Mr Modi’s Masters degree which it had earlier refused to disclose citing secrecy.

Meanwhile, responding to a question about the timing of the GSPC Report, Mr Ramesh said the reason why this issue has come on to the public domain now is because of the CAG report. If the CAG Report was to be ‘Brahmastra’ for 2-G, and if CAG Report was the ‘Brahmastra’ for the Coal allotment, how can’t it not be ‘Brahmastra’ for KG Basin. Why are these double standards So, it is the CAG Report which has documented all the facts. These are not political facts, these are CAG facts. Rs. 19,700 Crore is a CAG figure, Tuff Drilling and Geo Global is in the CAG Report. It is a fact that last month i.e. at the end of March, a comprehensive report by the CAG on the GSPC’s KG Basin activities has been released.
