“Haathi sara paisa kha gaya aur cycle puncture ho gayi,” said Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi while addressing a meeting in Azamgarh on Sunday.

Azamgarh is the parliamentary constituency of Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav and the cycle is the SP symbol while the elephant is the BSP symbol.

“The elephant ate up all the money so you people chased it away. You brought the cycle but it is stuck since the past four and a half years. I do not know if the cycle has a puncture or is tied from behind or broken, but it is not moving. It has not given you ration cards, electricity or even security,” he said.

Mr Gandhi asked the people to think about the Congress now.

“Phir dekhiye haath (Congress symbol) aapko ration card bhi dega aur kisano ki samasya bhi khatan karega,” he said.

Mr Gandhi is extensively touring eastern UP on his Kisan yatra since September 6 and had been interacting mainly with farmers. His month-long yatra will take a two-day break from Monday for Bak Id.
