Dwarka Peeth Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati on Monday cautioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to commit the mistake of taking a leaf from Jawaharlal Nehru’s China policy while dealing with Pakistan.

“India has paid a heavy price for the Panchsheel treaty conceived by Nehru to buy peace with China. The PM is repeating the mistakes made by Nehru by making friendly overtures to Pakistan. We hoped the PM would review the flawed policies pursued by the Manmohan Singh government towards Kashmir and Pakistan and frame the right foreign policy, basis of which should be in the interest of India. But, the PM’s foreign policy seems to be totally directionless,” he said.

“The present mess in Kashmir and recent two major terrorist attacks on Army bases in Jammu and Kashmir are reflections of failure of diplomacy by the Union government. Hence, the PM should now focus on preparing the country psychologically and militarily for war with Pakistan instead of moving around the world on diplomatic missions,” he said.

The Hindu seer warned that India cannot afford to be complacent hoping for American support in view of recent formation of the axis of China- Russia- Pakistan.

“We have no other options but to prepare for a war (with Pakistan). Attacks on army bases by terrorists with impunity will affect morale of our forces”, he warned.

The seer further suggested that the government should initiate urgent steps to rehabilitate Kashmir pundits in the Valley.

The Shankaracharya also regretted ill-treatment meted out to him by some security personnel at Delhi airport on Sunday and demanded actions by the authorities concerned to ensure such incidents do not recur in future.
