The Orissa police on Monday issued notices to six persons associated with the regional television and film industry for their alleged involvement in the exploitation of a female actor.

The complainant, a television actress, had on Sunday filed a complaint with the mahila police here against directors Tapas Sargaria and Chandi Parija, event manager Bapi Jena, producer Subrat Naik, husband-wife duo and tele serial producers Nihar Samal and Bini Samal.

The police registered a case under Sections 354, 294, 506 and 34 of the IPC late on Sunday evening. Following this, the actress had recorded her statement under Section 161 of Criminal Procedure Code.

Based on her statement, the police has issued notices to these six persons to depose before it for questioning as part of the investigation.

Parija, Nihar Samal, Bini Samal and other actors working under the banner of the production house Urmee Communication refuted the allegation.

“On December 20 last year, she had quit my company. After six months, she has levelled allegations against me and my husband... At the time of joining our company on 8 August, 2014, she had signed an agreement. She had received Rs 2 lakh through demand promissory note as advance. Later she quit our company as a result of which three days’ shooting was affected and I had incurred Rs 2 lakh loss. Overall, it was Rs 4 lakh due on her for which she has levelled allegations so as not to repay the amount. I demand the amount or else I would take legal recourse. Initially, she had filed a complaint against three persons of casting couch at Lingaraj police station. Now, she has included three more persons associated with Urmee Communications,” Bini Samal claimed.

Reacting to this, Sarmistha said: “If she has given me money as advance then let her show in which mode she has paid me. I have the proof to back my claims.”
