Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati on Sunday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving advice to Pakistan after the Uri attack in India.

Taking a jibe at the Prime Minister’s address during the BJP national council meeting in Kerala on Saturday, Ms Mayawati said that PM Modi should look at his own track record of poverty, illiteracy, unemployment and poor health services instead of giving advice to other countries.

“This is not the time to give advice and deliver sermons. People expect concrete assurance and effective action from the PM to check recurrence of such an incident. This is the time to act. Mr Modi’s foreign policy has proved to be a failure and the BJP has failed like the Congress to protect our borders,” she said. She said that there was anger in the country over the Uri attacks and the Prime Minister should take necessary steps without delay. Ms Mayawati also slammed the Prime Minister over the situation in Kashmir and blamed the PDP-BJP government for the three month-long shutdown in the Valley.

“The Modi government has proved that it is not concerned about the poor and the downtrodden and the minorities are not safe under its regime. The Modi government works for industrialists and the Prime Minister is himself advertising for his rich friends,” she said.

Ms Mayawati also criticised the Akhilesh government of being insensitive towards the spread of dengue and chikanguniya.

“At a time when hundreds are dying due to these diseases, the Samajwadi Party leadership is fighting its family battles. This is a case of Nero fiddling while Rome burns,” she said.
