The Congress on Monday indicated that AICC general secretary Gurudas Kamat will be back in action soon.

The Congress on Monday indicated that AICC general secretary Gurudas Kamat will be back in action soon. The party has already rejected his resignation a few days ago saying that he is very much in the Congress.

Mr Kamat, former Union minister and AICC general secretary in-charge of Gujarat and Rajasthan, had announced to quit active politics but party sources clarified he took this step due to some “developments” in his constituency.

The five-term Lok Sabha member from Mumbai was disturbed due to attempts undertaken by a section of the party to weaken him. “He is very sensitive... we are in touch with him and also spoke to Soniaji and Rahulji,” a well-informed source said here on Monday.

If party insiders are to be believed, the Congress will perform well in the upcoming BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls due to the infighting between the ruling allies Shiv Sena, BJP. But the Mumbai regional Congress has become a divided house and thereby failing to create a killer instinct in the party.

A senior Mumbai Congress leader said we can’t win the BMC polls unless the party high command takes a corrective steps without a delay.

The Congress in Maharashtra is not in a position to defeat the BJP and the Shiv Sena on its own. This is because current PCC chief Ashok Chavan is facing Adarsh housing scam charges while former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan cannot lead the party following the Congress’ debacle in the Lok Sabha and the state Assembly polls under his leadership. Besides, he has not been comfortable with the Sharad Pawar-led party.
