A CRPF jawan died after being buried by a landslide near the shrine of Mata Vaishnodevi in the Trikota hills of Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district on Wednesday.

The police said CRPF head constable Harvinder Singh, a resident of Hoshiyarpur in neighbouring Punjab, was deployed near gate No. 3 of the revered cave shrine, located at height of 5,200, feet when the landslide occurred. The police added that Singh died after being crushed by a huge rock and that his corpse was later retrieved after drilling the rock. On August 6, three pilgrims were killed and nine injured when a landslide ripped apart a shelter near the cave shrine.
