Around 29 candidates, who secured admission in Jabalpur based Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Medical College (NSCBMC) in 2008, are now under the scanner of the CBI for allegedly getting admission in MBBS through fraudulent methods. The agency, which is investigating the multi-crore Vyapam scam, is also probing the role of some senior officials of the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) in this regard.

“Investigations by the CBI have revealed that around 29 candidates allegedly took the assistance of impersonators in the written examination for medical course in NSCBMC in 2008 with the help of middlemen. Their answer sheets are being scrutinised. This exam was conducted by MPPEB,” sources said. The agency has filed a chargesheet against a candidate and a middleman for allegedly helping students in getting admission to MBBS course through forgery and impersonation in pre-medical test conducted in 2008. The case was registered against 60 accused in July 2015.

Sources further said, “One middleman, who was absconding since the registration of the FIR by local police, was recently arrested by the CBI. The middleman was allegedly keeping the ill-gotten cash amounts in the bank account of his brother.”

Sources added that the investigation against the accused has been kept open.

The expert opinion of he Central Forensic Science Laboratory on handwriting/signature on the OMR answer sheet had established that the candidate, against whom chargesheet has been filed, did not appear in the examination and the unidentified impersonator appeared on his behalf in the said examination,” sources said adding that the investigation against unidentified impersonators and other accused persons, including 29 candidates, has been kept open.

The Supreme Court in July 2015 had transferred the probe of all cases related to Vyapam scam to the CBI. Vyapam is a government body responsible for conducting several entrance tests in Madhya Pradesh. It recruits for government jobs and admissions to educational institutes.
