The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday said the National Democratic Alliance government has taken a U-turn on its pre-poll promise of ensuring 50 per cent profit on input costs to farmers. AAP Punjab convener Gurpreet Singh Waraich said Union agriculture minister Radha

Mohan Singh has ruled out implementing 50 per cent profit on input cost, which was one of the main recommendations of the M.S. Swaminathan commission report.

The APP said before the Lok Sabha polls in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in public speeches promised to double farmers’ income.

“This is nothing but sheer cheating and betrayal of voters by the BJP,” Mr Waraich said. He said it was sad to know that Mr Singh had no plans to waive off debt of farmers in Punjab, which has been a long-pending demand of the state.
