The Swaraj Abhiyan, led by former AAP leaders Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan, is thinking of testing electoral waters as five states go to polls next year. The decision on floating a new political party will be taken at the Swaraj Abhiyan’s national delegates convention here on July 31.

Mr Yadav and Mr Bhushan had helped found the organisation after their expulsion from the Aam Aadmi Party in April 2015. In its November 2015 resolution, Swaraj Abhiyan had decided to form a national working committee only after having election delegates from over 100 districts and internal elections in a minimum of six state units, according to the organisation’s media in-charge Anupam.

He said the internal elections will take place in Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and Delhi on Sunday, while a similar exercise has already been completed in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Bihar.

The newly-constituted national steering committee, comprising around 300 members, will elect the new national working committee in Haryana on July 30. “On July 31, over 1000 elected delegates will be taking a call on formation of a political party and whether to contest the Assembly polls in various states next year. There is a general feeling that we should form a political party. It was easy for us to do so when we parted ways with the AAP,” Anupam said, claiming that there is a momentum in favour of the organisation.
