A Delhi court has issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against India’s most wanted man Dawood Ibrahim and his close aide Chhota Shakeel for allegedly hiring goons to kill a man who had burnt the fugitive mafia don’s auctioned car.

Swami Chakrapani, president of Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha, had won the car for Rs. 32,000 at an open government auction in Mumbai in December. He later burnt the vehicle in Ghaziabad to show that “Dawood has no power and no one fears him.”

The court issued the NBW against the two on a plea moved by the special cell of the Delhi police. Indian police have been unable to trace the don accused of masterminding the 1993 Mumbai blasts that killed 257 people. He is reported to be hiding in Pakistan where he runs a crime syndicate.

A police source said that Dawood was very angry over the car- burning incident, and asked Chhota Shakeel to eliminate Chakrapani.

“In April Shakeel contacted Junaid and asked him to track Chakrapani’s movement. Shakeel also sent him money for arms and other expenses. Junaid roped in Roger Robinson, Yunus Malik and Manish in the plan,” the police source said.

The source said that the special cell had got a tip-off about the plan and the mobile number being used by Junaid was put on surveillance.

The police came to know that Junaid was in touch with Shakeel and he (Shakeel) had also sent him money to procure arms. The text message exchanged between Junaid and Shakeel and other accused also revealed that they were also hatching a conspiracy to kill Chhota Rajan currently in Delhi’s Tihar Jail.

The special cell had arrested Junaid, Roger, Yunus and Manish in June and had recovered 2 pistols and ten live cartridges from their possession. A case under sections 120-B of the IPC read with section 24 of the Arms Act was lodged in this respect.

“During interrogation Junaid told the cops that Shakeel had given them money and had asked him to eliminate Chakrapani to teach him a lesson for setting Dawood’s car on fire,” the source said, adding that they then decided to move a plea before the court to get an NBW issued against Dawood and Shakeel.

The source said that the court after hearing the submission made by the police official allowed their plea and issued NBW against Chhota Shakeel and Dawood Ibrahim.
