A 20-year-old school student was stabbed to death outside his house in Madangir area of Southeast Delhi on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Deepak, alias Deepu, a student at a government school, who had appeared in the Class 12 board exams recently. He was stabbed 42 times by four youth with whom he had a tiff some months ago, the police said.

“Deepak’s father, Kalu Ram, who works as a labourer in the area, heard his son’s screams. When he went out of the house, he saw Deepak lying in pool of blood,” a senior police officer said.

“There were several stab wounds on his thighs, chest, stomach and a deep cut close to the heart. He saw a few persons fleeing the spot. He informed the police control room and rushed him to the hospital. But, Deepak had died on the spot,” the officer said.

Preliminary investigations revealed Deepak had a quarrel with four of his friends over some financial issues following which he stopped visiting them. However, his father told the police that his son had stopped interacting with his friends because they were into drugs and were forcing him to take drugs.

On Friday night, one of Deepak’s friends called him to come outside for a meeting. Initially, Deepak did not take their call. However, he later answered the phone and they convinced him to leave home and meet them.

“It appears that Deepak had a financial dispute with his friends. It appears the youth wanted Deepak to accompany them and take drugs with them but since he refused, their ego was hurt,” said a senior police officer.

A murder charge was registered at the Sangam Vihar police station. The police has recorded statements of 25 people and accessed CCTV footage of the area to identify the four youth.

Deepak’s phone was also seized to identify the number of the youth he last spoke to. Sources said that the juvenile involved in the crime has been identified. “A team went to the residence of the juvenile, but he is absconding. His mobile phone is also switched off. We are conducting raids to arrest the accused involved in the crime,” the police officer said.
