Rape case: Mahmood Farooqui judgment on July 30

A Delhi court on Saturday fixed July 30 for delivering its judgment in a case lodged against Mahmood Farooqui, the co-director of Bollywood movie Peepli Live, for allegedly raping a 30-year-old American research scholar from Columbia University.

Additional sessions judge Sanjiv Jain, who was scheduled to pronounce the verdict on Saturday, adjourned it to July 30 as the judgement was not ready. Farooqui has denied the allegations, saying he was falsely implicated. The victim had deposed that after the alleged rape incident, around nine emails were exchanged between her and Farooqui in which he had expressed his apology.

The woman, in her complaint, had alleged that Farooqui had raped her when she had gone to meet him to get help for her research work.

The police had on June 19 lodged an FIR against Farooqui on the complaint of the woman after which the filmmaker was arrested.
