Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha (IP) University is all set to offer a new masters course in nursing-cardiovascular and thoracic nursing from this academic session.

The varsity has begun with the online admission process for the new course. The course will be available at National Heart Institute with a total of eight seats.

The last date for submitting the applications is August 22.

The admissions will be based on the common entrance test (CET) that would be held on September 4. “The minimum eligibility to take admission in this programme is B.Sc. nursing with 55 per cent marks and minimum one-year work experience in the field of nursing,” a varsity official said.

While the tentative counselling schedule will be displayed on the university website on or before September 12, the detailed schedule will be uploaded after the declaration of CET result.

The university will announce and display the ranks of only those candidates who are declared as qualified in the CET. The candidates will then be called for counselling/ admission, depending upon the number of seats available in each programme.

Last week, Indraprastha University also hiked its annual fee from Rs 40,000 to Rs 70,000, which attracted criticism from various quarters, including parents and Opposition parties. The percentage increase was 75 per cent. However, the varsity clarified that the fees has been increased from Rs 53,000 to Rs 70,000, which is an increase of 32 per cent only.

“Last revision of the fee structure for the students was done in the academic session 2011-12. Even after current fee revision, it is still much lower than other state government’s technical universities,” an official statement said.
