A Delhi police constable suffered bullet injury and his three colleagues received cut wounds while two criminals sustained bullet injuries in a gunbattle that lasted for almost five minutes on Sunday morning at the Begampur police station road near Rohini in Outer Delhi.

Three bullets were fired from three separate guns allegedly by the robbers who were on their way to rob a property dealer in Rohini in a white Swift car.

The raiding team, comprising 11 policemen led by SHO of the Sultanpuri police station, fired two shots, one deflating the car’s tyre and another grazing past its driver’s neck before piercing through the cheek of his associate seated on the front passenger seat. The four car occupants were overpowered by policemen who broke the windowpanes of the car with their hands and received cuts in the process. They also caught the fifth robber who was riding a Pulsar motorcycle.

The arrested robbers include two who are already booked under MCOCA and another who had recently come out of jail on parole. The five have been identified as Sudhir alias Kala, Vijay alias Rajesh, Farman, Sanjay Geroge and Rahul alias Sunny. It all started around 9 am when the Sultanpuri police station SHO was tipped off about a gang of five who were roaming around Rithala and Begampur Road in a Swift car to target a property dealer, possibly carrying huge cash with him. The SHO immediately formed a team and left with them their private cars to avoid robbers’ attention. When the robbers were challenged, they opened fire.
