Customs officer linked to gang absconding

The Delhi police’s special cell on Tuesday claimed to have busted an international drug syndicate and recovered 14.2 kg of party drug mephedrone, also known as meow-meow in slang, worth Rs 25 crore in international market. The cell also arrested eight drug traffickers from various parts of the national capital in its week-long operation.

This is the second haul of drugs within 48 hours by the police. On Monday, the city police busted a nexus between Punjab-based and foreign drug suppliers, and recovered heroine worth `16 crore. A team of special cell working on drug trafficking received input about a Mumbai-based supplier, Faizan Supariwala, who was coming to the city to receive the drug consignment at Greater Kailash-II, from where he was arrested on July 23.

“Two packets of meow-meow, weighing 1.215 gm and 995 gm were recovered from his possession,” said police official.

Faizan revealed during interrogation that he worked for his relative Arif, who was in the trade, and they used to send drug consignments to Gulf and European countries with the help of one Kailash, who used to operate from Dubai. Kailash is on the most-wanted list of the Mumbai police.

Faizan also told the police that he had received the packets of the drug in Delhi from a C.R. Park resident, called Sunny. Later, a raid was conducted and Surender Singh, alias Sunny, was arrested from GK-II. A packet of mephedrone, weighing 650 gm, was recovered from him. The arrest was followed by more arrests of the syndicate members — Rishi from Kondli, Guddu Yadav, Manoj Sengar, Sanjay Khanna, Dipak Parashar and Mahender Rana.

Arrest of Guddu Yadav near Karkardooma court led to recovery of two packets of the drug weighing 600 gm and 250 gm. A total of 850 gm of the drug was recovered from the possession of Deepak Parashar and 600 gm from Sanjay Khanna.

Khanna revealed information about Mahender Rana, who was arrested with biggest recovery of 9.90 kg of mephedrone.

“Rana revealed that a customs employee had provided him a total of 21 kg of mephedrone and he had already sold around 12 kg through Sanjay Khanna on different occasions,” said the officer. The police investigation, so far, has revealed that Kailash, who is based in Mumbai, is kingpin of the syndicate.

The Delhi police special cell was informed that Kailash was also wanted in Mumbai in a similar case, in which his brother was already under arrest. He was presently in Dubai.

The investigation is on full swing and raids are being conducted to apprehend remaining drug-peddlers linked to the syndicate at their hideouts in Mumbai, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, added the officer.

“The customs inspector, who had helped drug trafficker in customs clearance, has been identified. Police teams are making an effort to arrest the officer as he is at large,” said a police official.
