Cornering the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the arrest of MLA Dinesh Mohaniya, the Delhi BJP has said that the arrest of the MLA on allegations of slapping and harassing women has again brought out in the open the “anti women” character of AAP leaders. Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay said the AAP and its leaders have no respect for women.

Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, said that the defence of Mr Mohaniya by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his party shows that the AAP does not know how to respect women.

“The defence of Mohaniya by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal proves that this party has little respect for women. The anarchic character of the AAP is now in the open,” said Mr Gupta.

Mr Gupta mentioned that an FIR for abuse and indecorous behaviour was lodged against Mr Mohaniya by women who had gone to him to complain about non-supply of water. “Arrest of Mr Mohaniya is being termed like a Emergency-like situation in Delhi by the chief minister. This shows that the mental balance of AAP is not right. The chief minister should have suspended the legislator for use of abusive language and indecorous behaviour and get the matter investigated. The AAP has no faith in Indian laws,” added Mr Gupta.

Mr Gupta also questioned the Delhi police role in delaying the arrest of Mr Mohaniya. “Why was he not arrested after the women lodged the complaint,” asked Mr Gupta.

Mr Updhayay further said that the incident also established the fact that there is an extreme water scarcity in remote resettlement colonies and villages of South Delhi.

“Instead of providing regular and sufficient drinking water or hearing the grievances of citizens, AAP legislators are misbehaving with them and also assaulting them,” added Mr Upadhyay.
