Malla claims golf trophy

Kathmandu, July 9

Prithivi Malla won the title of the Ballantine’s Monsoon Challenge gold tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Malla scored seven-under 65 nett in the second and final edition of the tournament. Tendi Sherpa came second with the score of two-under 70 nett.

Mithun Rai claimed the gross section trophy with the score of even-par 72, while Maj Gen (Retd) Mahesh Bikram Karki lifted the senior category title with two-over 74 score. Rekha Ghimire won the women’s section trophy with the nett score of 22-over 94.

Purna Bahadur Rai won the most birdies award on count back after he was tied with Suryansh Chaudhary and YD Kwon on four birdies. Likewise, Phuntshok Lama received the longest drive award, while Ang Dorjee Sherpa bagged the closest-to-the-pin trophy.

The tournament — which was sponsored by Pernod Ricard Pvt Ltd — was played over two rounds of 18 holes and the best score on each hole was counted for the result. The players were allowed only half of their original handicap allowances. A total of 56 players participated in the tournament. Country Manager of Pernod Ricard Ravinder Saini and Captain of Gokarna Golf Club Joseph Nathan handed over the prizes to the winners of the tournament.
