Kathmandu, December 16

National Sports Council today formed a five-member committee to probe into the controversies of women’s national cricket team selection and All Nepal Football Association’s failure to register Ruslan Three Star Club for the AFC Cup Playoff.

NSC Member Dev Kumar Adhikari is the coordinator of the committee that comprises of NSC Administration Department Chief Madhusudan Basnet, Sports Development Department Chief Kul Bahadur Thapa, Association and Federation Department Chief Dem Bahadur Basnet and Legal Advisor Dhan Bahadur Basnet.

As per the NSC press statement issued on Friday, a three-member selection committee of national cricket team head coach Jagat Tamatta, coach Raju Basnet and Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Chief Operating Officer Chhumbi Lama were blamed of receiving bribe to include four players in the women’s national squad for the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier for Asia Region held in Hong Kong last month. They have been also accused of nominating staff nurse in place of physio.

Likewise, the committee will also investigate Three Star Club’s matters. ANFA had failed to register the reigning national champions for the AFC Cup second round draw despite being reminded by the Asian Football Confederation four times. As per the NSC, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) asked the sports’ governing body to investigate into the matters following the instructions from Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority.
