Final squad named for Women’s SAFF

Lalitpur, December 9

All Nepal Football Association today announced the 20-member squad for the fourth SAFF Women’s Championship to be held in Siliguri, India from December 26 to January 4.

Renuka Nagarkoti is the skipper of the team that includes three goalkeepers, six defenders, six midfielders and five forwards. Regular captain Anu Lama, who led the team since 2013 winning two silver medals, is currently undergoing treatment of her injured knee.

Namita Kumari Dali, Anjila Tumbapo Subba and Anjana Rana Magar are the keepers, while Gita Rana, Punam Jargha Magar, Hira Kumari Bhujel, Anchali Waiwa, Man Maya Limbu and Kabita Dhimal are defenders.

Likewise, Sapana Lama, Dipa Adhikari, Anita Basnet, Renuka Nagarkoti, Dipa Rai, Manjali Kumari Yonjan are midfielders, while Sabitra Bhandari, Krishna Khatri, Sharmila Thapa, Saru Limbu and Nirmala BK are forwards of the team.

The final squad was announced from the 30 players who were at the closed camp under coach Kumar Thapa. Asmita Khawas is the assistant coach.

Nepal are pitted in Group A along with Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Bhutan. Nepal will face Bhutan on December 26, and meet the Maldives two days later. They will play their final league round match against Sri Lanka on December 30.

Hosts India, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are in Group B. Nepal are also scheduled to play an international friendly match against Malaysia on December 17.
