Sama-Chakewa begins in Mithilanchal to celebrate sibling bond

MAHOTTARI: Sama-Chakewa, one of the important festivals of Maithili community residing in sourthern Nepal, celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters, has begun on Saturday.

On the first day of the festival, women sing various folklores, collect clay and make the clay idols of Sama-Chekheva (birds representing Shyama and Charuwakya).

The clay idols are decorated with various colours. Carrying the idols in the bamboo baskets, they sing and dance at temples and other public places for 10 days.

Wishing their brothers healthy, prosperous and prosperous lives, sisters of the Maithili community celebrate this festival.

It begins on the day of Kartik Shukla Panchami and concludes on Purnima (on the night of the full moon).

The festival is also known as the Sama game. Gifts are also exchanged among relatives during the festivities.

Celebrated in various districts including Mahottari, Sarlahi, Siraha, Dhanusha, Saptari and Parsa among others in Tarai region of the country, Sama-Chakewa is also observed with a verve in many bordering towns in India.
