KANCHANPUR: CPN Maoist Centre politburo member and former minister, Lekhraj Bhatta on Thursday inspected an under-construction dam in Mahakali River from Laskugad in Darchula district headquarters to local Namaskar.

The flooded river had swept half of the Darchula downtown three years ago.

The Maoist leader Bhatta took interest and visited the construction site after locals repeatedly complained about the delay in construction of the dam, Press Centre Nepal, Kanchanpur Chairman, Rajendra Prasad Awasthi spoke from Darchula.

Former minister Bhatta also instructed the employees of the concerned offices to speed up the construction.

Leader Bhatta stressed that the government should immediately complete the construction of the dam and securely rebuild the bazaar area for the residents of Darchula headquarters. He pledged to hold discussions on the issue with the government.

During the occasion, Darchula's flood victims poured out their grievances of having to live under risk and not receiving suitable compensation.
