KATHMANDU: A woman died and her husband was injured when a water tanker hit a scooter in Dakshin Dhoka of Gokarneshor Municipality-14 on Thursday.

Bimala Khanal (37) of Mulpani in Kageshwori Manahara Municipality-10 died while the vehicle (Na 1 Kha 1006) hit the two-wheeler (Ba 38 Pa 6087) they were riding on.

She died on the spot while her husband, Gopal (46), has sustained injuries in the incident.

Gopal has been taken to the Shankarapur Hospital for treatment, police added.

Meanwhile, locals of the area vandalised the vehicle after the incident. They also pelted stones at the police personnel who had arrived at the site to control the situation.

At least 16 police personnel were injured during the clash and have been sent to the Hospital for treatment. Police then had fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.

Another four-wheeler (Ba 1 Jha 7875) was also vandalised and sidelights and two body protector seals were destroyed.

Police said they have arrested the tanker driver for further investigation into the case.
