Kanak Mani Dixit's detention extended by 10 days

KATHMANDU: The Special Court on Sunday extended the detention of Sajha Yatayat Chairman Kanak Mani Dixit at the custody of the Commission for the Investigation of Authority by 10 more days.

He was arrested by the Commission on Friday to probe into corruption allegations against him.

As he was arrested after the Court's working hours were over on Friday and Saturday was weekend holiday, Dixit, also a noted journalist and human rights activist, was presented before the Court on Sunday only.

The anti-corruption constitutional body had sought the remand before the Court claiming Dixit should not be released to carry out the investigations against him uninterruptedly.

While the Commission had sought 30 days in remand, the division bench of Mohan Raman Bhattarai, Prabha Basnet and Mahesh Prasad Pudasaini had extended the detention by 10 days, according to Himalkhabar.com. Dixit is associated with the Himal Media.

He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Bir Hospital after he suffered high blood pressure on Saturday.
